805 Beer….The Angler’s Brew

The fishing community is a very small community compared to the population at large, especially in California.  But we are a passionate community that loves our lifestyle.  Anglers will go out of their way to support companies that support them.  We all have our favorite fishing rods, reels, tackle boxes, lures, line, etc., etc. And all of that product is supported by hats and t-shirts and hoodies telling everybody who we are, what we like to do and who we like to do it with.  Well, many of the people at the Firestone Walker brewing company are avid anglers.  They contacted the Fred Hall Shows because they get it when it comes to fishing and they want to be our beer.

The Firestone Walker brewery is owned by brothers-in-law.  Did you ever notice how brothers settle things the old-fashioned way.  Try brothers-in-law who own a brewery together.  Adam, AKA The Bear, and David, AKA the Lion, may battle, epically at times, but at least neither ever forgets it’s for the epic love of beer.

805 BeerDavid Walker is The Lion.  A British expatriate and Adam’s brother-in-law who brought a European twist to the proceedings.  Together, they soon dreamed of building an unparalleled regional brewery, one that combines the authenticity of Old World craft with the innovative spirit of California.

Adam Firestone, The Bear.  Growing up on the Central Coast surrounded by vineyards and winemaking, Adam’s gravitation towards brewing started at an early age.  The brewing ideas all launched in converted wine-making equipment—mostly with mixed results.  But the hook was set when the first recipe for Double Barrel Ale was attempted.  All that was needed to take this idea beyond a pipe dream was a partner. Many were approached with the idea but none were interested.  That is until he persuaded one lone Englishman who happened to be married to his sister.

Matt Brynildson is the Brewmaster and an angler.  Matt is excited about advancing the company’s celebrated commitment to quality and innovation.  “Our brewery is a cutting-edge facility, right down to the bottling line,” he says.  “This is enabling me to take Firestone Walker beers to the next level.”  But the head brewmaster, Dustin Krawl, is an AVID angler.  He’s one of the people that wanted 805 beer to be part of the Fred Hall shows.  Take a look at the pictures of him with a giant lingcod and a couple of nice salmon.

Founded in 1996 by Adam Firestone and David Walker, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a pioneering regional craft brewery located on the coast of California.  Their state-of-the-art brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers.  Their Barrelworks facility in Buelton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers.

In 2015 they combined with another family-owned brewery, Duvel Moortgat, to help pave the way for their next 20 years and beyond.  With deep roots in the Central Coast, they employ numerous sustainable practices that reflect their commitment to the local community and landscape.  805 BeerFounded on old-world brewing traditions and California ingenuity, Firestone Walker has always been committed to making the next beer better than the last.  The concept of “reuse, repurpose and recycle” comes naturally to a brewery that crafted its first batch using converted winemaking equipment on the Central Coast.

Just as brewers throughout the ages have toiled to create beer using resources close at hand, they continually strive to fine tune their operations so that they can create world-class brews in a beautiful locale for generations to come.

The Firestone-Walker Brewery is filled with anglers, from the brewmaster to the local “reps”.  Heather, the regional representative, knows the Fred Hall Shows really well because her father has been attending for 20 years and often brought his daughter.   Matt, the marketing person, is an outdoorsman and loves the Fred Hall Shows. The Fred Hall Shows are proud to have 805 beer as a show sponsor.  805 will be sold all over the shows in Long Beach and Del Mar.  Try a glass, or better yet a big can, of 805 beer.  The beer made by anglers for anglers.
